Salt & Light Church began on February 24, 2002 as Marion & Brenda Zeigler followed what they believed God was calling them to do- begin a church in the Sumter community that would effectively reach lost people with the gospel of Jesus Christ and help them become devoted disciples of Jesus Christ. In March, 2006, Rodney Howard joined this effort becoming the "teaching Pastor." At this point, the group had grown from a small group meeting in the Zeigler's home to meeting at the Santee Baptist Association Resource Center. Andy Davis served as the worship leader between April and November, until Jay Richardson gave leadership in forming a live band.
